Daria Botsula
Physicist, chemical engineer, PhD candidate at the University of Udine (Italy)
I am fascinated by exploring how modern technologies can convert waste and solar energy into useful heat and fuel. I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Physics at the University of Udine, where I am researching biomass gasification processes – specifically, how fuel gas and energy can be produced from plant-based raw materials. In my work, I combine experimental research with CFD modelling to better understand and optimise the operation of compact gasifiers. In addition, I am involved in the development of Linear Mirror technology – a system of moving mirrors that track the sun and concentrate sunlight to generate thermal energy. I am a chemical engineer by training, a graduate of Lviv Polytechnic National University. During my master’s degree, I worked on a project to create hydrogel alginate dressings for the treatment of burns, and in my thesis I optimised the drying process, reducing its duration from 48 hours to 1.5 hours.
